Three of The Best Garage Door Openers

There are many types of garage door openers and you should check and compare the offer before you commit to one.

The criteria we’ve considered are the mechanism (chain drives – the noisiest, screw drives and belt drives – the fastest), motor (Dc’s use less electricity), safety features (an automatic reverse safety feature is important as it can prevent accidents) and of course price – the deciding factor.

Starting with highest ranked then down: Chamberlain Whisper Drive WD822KD, Chamberlain PD752D and Genie H6000A-2K.

The Chamberlain Whisper Drive WD822KD uses belt drives and scored highest in all categories, its only downside being the price (around 250$) and it was not designed to lift very heavy doors. Other than that it is quiet and fast, uses rolling code encryption and comes with a lifetime warranty for the motor and 10 years for the belt.

For heavy doors, the Chamberlain PD752D is an excellent choice because of the powerful motor and safety as well, as it also uses the rolling code encryption. It also comes with a wireless outdoor keypad and is approximately 170$, but the problem with it is that it’s very noisy due to the chain driven mechanism.

The Genie H6000A-2K is less noisy (it uses screw drives) than a chain driven model, has many built-in security features, 10-year warranty on all parts and comes with 2-3 button remote controls. Users also say it is easy to install and use, but priced at 190$ it is expensive and compared to belt driven models it is rather noisy.
