About french drains

A french drain allows water to flow instead of stagnating. The drain is basically just a ditch filled with small stones and sand.

Drain location

If installed correctly, french drains are difficult to find without digging.

The drain can be found in two major positions.

High ground to low ground

A drain going from high ground to lower ground is designed to let the water flow more easily without the risk of it stopping and pooling.

Easy water flow

French drains require no maintenance and are very effective. They must be built at an angle to speed up the flow of water. It works by giving the water a place to go when danger of pooling appears. The gravel and sand used aren’t an impediment in the way of the water, they can be easily passed. Make sure that your drain won’t just lead all the water in your neighbor’s yard.
