Adjusting downspouts

It is  important that you check your gutters and downspouts regularly to avoid any unwanted problems and be sure that they are working the way they should. Any problem you might have is easily fixable if you follow some easy steps.

Gutter pitch correction

Mark the position the gutter must have.

Trace the line with chalk. Don’t forget that gutters should fall about 1/4th of an inch every 10 feet or so. Remove the hangers and adjust the gutters and downspouts until they are in the right position then mount the hangers back on.

Downspout drain correction

To improve the draining efficiency of your downspouts you could dig trenches bellow them, sloping outwards from the house. In those trenches place corrugated or PVC drainage pipes to help ease out the surplus volume of water.
