  1.  Mix four tablespoons of baking soda, one teaspoon of salt and two pints of pure white vinegar.
  2. Cover the spots with the resulted paste very well.
  3. Leave the paste over the spots for about fifteen minutes.
  4. Cut a lemon into half and rub its interior part on the spots until the acidity of the lemon gets into the stains.
  5. Make a mixture of one water gallon and on teaspoon of Calgon. Soak a clean sponge into the mixture and clean the spots.

This is the cheapest solution you can use to remove hard water spots from the sinks and glass in your house. If there are small stains on your glasses or sinks, you can remove them very easy with vinegar. I am sure you have vinegar into your house. Another cheap method that can remove hard water stains is lemon juice. Phosphoric acid and oxalic acid can also be very helpful. Sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid is used only by professional companies to remove hard water stains.

Commercial acid cleaners

Lime scales on the dishes, sinks and glass are produced by the magnesium and calcium in the water. Manufacturers have come with many commercial cleaners that can remove these unpleasant stains. Lime-A-Way is one of the most popular products used for this purpose. It contains polyquaternium – 11 (0-0.5%), sulfamic acid (5-8%) and alcohols (1-3%). Another popular product used to remove lime deposits caused by hard water is Common Lime Rust Remover ( CLR). Its ingredients are oleic acid (2-4%), water (80-82%), ethoxyethanol (2-4%), tetrasodium (2-3%) and triethanolamine (2-3%).

This is why it is recommended to avoid washing and cleaning with hard water.
