Basement drainage

It’s very important to control the humidity in your basement, because this way you can prevent problems related to water damage, mold and mildew. Although many basements have a water barrier installed on the exterior walls, cracks always appear and these can perforate the barrier.

Using dehumidifiers

Using a dehumidifier you can reduce the air moisture from your basement, but it won’t help you reduce the humidity in the walls.

This dehumidifier uses a fan to bring the air and inside it condenses the water in the air. Then it will send it in a tank. If you are planning to use a dehumidifier you need to know that you will need to dump the water a few times a day.

Drainage systems

Outside moisture will surely increase the humidity levels in your basement. One way to lower the humidity is by installing extensions for the gutters and downspouts. These will direct the water farther away from your home foundation and thus away from the basement.

Using drain tiles

Drain tiles are an excellent solution for water drainage. These tiles need to be installed around the perimeter of the house. The water will be collected inside the perforated pipes and drains. You need to use gravel to cover the drain tile to keep small soil particles from clogging the drains.

Basement coating

You can also control humid basements by coating them with waterproof solutions. These coatings will cover the porous concrete walls and create a water barrier that will prevent moisture from entering your basement.

Small cracks can be covered with wall caulking.
