Bottle watering

Plants require a constant supply of water in order to thrive. In case you plan on going out of town for a longer period of time, it is recommended that you use an automatic irrigation system, that can be homemade in order to save money and time.

Use a 2 liter soda bottle as a water container.

Be sure to rinse it so it is clean and has no sort of residue. Also, take off the label off it. Cut the bottle in half, 5 1/2 inches from the bottom of the bottle. Use scissors or a knife. Cut some cotton fabric of about 6 and a half inches on each side and then cut a cotton strip 1 inch wide and 14 inches long. Roll the square of fabric into a ball and tie the fabric strip around it. Use string to secure the strip.

Place the fabric ball into the bottle and turn it upside down so that the strip hangs bellow. Fill the bottom of the bottle with 1 inch of water and place the top of the bottle neck into the bottom, thus the strip will soak, but the neck won’t. Fill up the bottle top with soil and plant your plant in the soil. Water it from the top. Refill the container anytime it is needed. The time the water lasts depends on the plant.
