Chimney copper caps
There are many types of chimney caps. They are used to avoid pests, debris and dirt from infiltrating into the chimney.
Screw tightening
If you are using a single-flue chimney cap, you just have to put it into place and, using a screwdriver, properly fasten it.
Securing caps on tile flues
To properly secure a chimney cap into place, you can use screw or nuts and cap sealant. For the inside of the caps, use a silicone based sealer.
Securing caps on metal flues
You must use a heat resistant sealant when working with caps and a metal flue, because metal heats up more rapidly and can melt the adhesive. A thick layer of sealant must be applied to the surrounding area of the cap using a caulking gun. For the best results, after applying the sealant press on the cap and smooth any extra sealant to stop it from oozing later.
