Chimney efficiency

Usually, the process of removing a chimney should be done by professionals, because they have the proper tools and knowledge to finish the job safe and right. If your budget doesn’t allow you to hire professionals, you could do this task also, with the right tools and  information.

Tools and Materials

• Leather work gloves
• Safety glasses
• Heavy ball peen hammer
• Masonry chisel
• Electric jackhammer (rent from home improvement store)
• Ladder or scaffolding (scaffolding is safer, but a ladder is cheaper)
• Safety harness
• A drop cloth
• Wheelbarrow

Removal process

First of all you must remove the mortar that keeps the bricks together.

You can do that with either a hammer and chisel, or a manual/electric jackhammer. A chisel must be pointed at the junction and firmly stroke with a hammer. Using a jackhammer is easier and works sort of in the same way. You can try using a small jack hammer but it must be used only from a scaffold or any other stable platform. Working with a jackhammer on a ladder is dangerous because the tool is heavy and you will get tired very fast.
