Chimney vinyl flashing

Chimney flashing doesn’t let water leak in the chimney. A damaged or faulty flashing is the number one cause of chimney leaks. The type of flashing you need depends on the material of the roof, the chimney size and the weather conditions of the area you live in.

Aluminum flashing

The aluminum flashing is the cheapest and most common of them all. It can be found in large rolls or bent and cut into shape. It has issues related to corrosion which damages the aluminum and makes it fall off. This is especially true for roofs treated with CCA.

PVC and vinyl flashing

Although it is less cheaper than aluminum flashing, vinyl flashing is popular because it is lightweight. It has many downsides though.  It doesn’t resist high temperatures, it tends to crack or break if used in areas with harsh weather conditions and doesn’t do well in wet and humid weather either.

Steel and galvanized steel flashing

Steel flashing is one of the most efficient types. It is more expensive than the other ones but it is also the most resistant. It resists high temperatures, cracking, breaking and corroding. It is treated with zinc which makes it more durable. The only downside is that the material is heavy and hard to use. The process of installing a steel flashing is a difficult task.

Copper flashing

Copper is one of the best materials used for chimney flashing. It is also one of the most expensive of them all. It is resistant to high temperatures, cracking, breaking and rough weather conditions. Copper flashing is lightweight and easy to install, but is hard to form with a round shape. A special sealant is used to create an extra insulating barrier.
