Replace shingles
Clear any dirt and debris that might be in the area and then replace the shingles you took out with new ones. Seal them with water and ice resistant sealant.
Base flashing
Begin installing the base flashing, at the bottom of the chimney and over the shingles. Each shingle piece must be sealed with a piece of flashing. Make sure the pieces of flashing overlap one another. The pieces must be nailed to the roof edge, 6 inches away from one another.
Front flashing
The front flashing must be bent around the chimney corners. This piece of flashing can be ordered with the specific measurements of the chimney. If you install a basic flashing, it must be cut 8 inches longer than the width of the chimney and nailed into place.
Side flashing
Use drive-in anchors to install the side flashing so that it overlaps each lower flashing piece. use cap flashing at the corners of the chimney.
Cap flashing sealant
Seal the cap flashing using polyurethane caulk on the mortar joints.
Finally, you have an effective chimney flashing that will prevent leaks and save your home.
