Lubricant spray

When choosing a residential garage door there are many things to keep in mind, like if the garage is single or double or if it adjoins the property, if you want a classic tilt-up or a modern roll-up and the materials used for construction.

The most popular are the automatic garage doors which are very safe and convenient as you can control the door from inside your car. The only downside of this is the limited power supply for the garage door opener, so make sure you have spare batteries on you and be careful not to open your neighbor’s garage door.

Vice versa it might happen that your door opens and closes on its own – this is most likely due to a similarity in codes with one of your neighbors so you should change your security code.

Because of the safety sensor your door might reverse while closing because of objects that it may detect as being in the way.

You should also make it a habit to check the system regularly. Check the tracks, springs, hinges and rollers if they are lubricated properly. You can use a garage door lubricant spray, or regular household oil is enough for rollers and pulleys. The use of motor oil also prevents a lot of problems in the door opener.

The metal tracks and mounting brackets should not have dents or flat spots but if you notice any they can be fixed with a hammer – if not, you should replace them. All the parts should be properly fixed and loose screws should be tightened.

If any screws are damaged you should replace them and if the wood parts are cracked at the hinge, remove it, fix it with wood filler, let it dry then reapply it.
