Red and white wires

If you have problems with the heating system, try parts of it to see what doesn’t work. Here is how you can do a test to the thermostat.

First, reach the wires.

Shut off the furnace and remove the cover of the thermostat.

If you want to test the power and heat, unscrew and remove the red and white wires. If you deal with a problem with cooling, pick red and green. Don’t allow the wires to fall through the hole in the wall.

Keep the two wires together, wrapped on a pencil.

Turn the system on and observe the furnace. Your thermostat is damaged if the blower and the furnace go on. If the burner won’t start working, you need to check the continuity of the wires between the thermostat and furnace.

Screw tight all the wires.
