Small garden

More and more people are taking up gardening as a hobby or free time activity because of the wonderful results it brings and the therapeutic advantages. You can take up gardening at any time, though it’s preferable you start in late spring or early summer, with a small garden at first if you don’t have any prior experience.

You should get both annual and perennial flowering plants to make sure your garden is always colourful and blooming.

The flower garden should be placed in sunlight, preferably not the scorching of the afternoon, but at least 6 hours will do nicely for most flowers – you can add some trees to provide partial shade. Now that you have settled on a spot, you should weed the area and add compost and other elements (like sand if the soil is clay or peat moss if the soil doesn’t retain enough moisture) to make the soil just as you need it for the flowering plants you want.

When choosing the plants, you should read a bit about them to make sure you can provide them with what they need and spare yourself disappointment due to some things you cannot control. You should plan your garden grouping flowers with similar needs together, but only if they are compatible with each other. After acquiring the plants, place them in the garden in the pattern you chose or thought of, loosening their roots gently before placing them in the ground and planting them not too deep or the water would evaporate before it reaches them.

In the first week watering should be done regularly, but you can slowly decrease the frequency to reach the requirements of the plant.

Once in a while, mulching is needed, as well as pruning and general care; dead leaves or blossoms and infected parts should be removed immediately.
