Residential water filtration systems

Water filtration systems are used to eliminate any chemicals and bacteria in the water. Manufacturers produce many types of this of water filtration systems, some of them are very complex, while others are very simple and easy to maintain. One has to choose such a system depending on the quality of the water in the area.rclma Tap water is a good option for drinking, but many people need a water filtration system in their homes. These systems use different techniques to purify water and are available in many varieties. Some of them provide a better taste of the water, while others eliminate chemicals and bacteria. Here are several water filtration system types:

Distillation is the most common and efficient way to purify water because it eliminates a large percent of the contaminants. This process removes biological, organic and inorganic contaminants. Distilled water is the condensed water resulted after boiling. The process originates from the nature’s hydrological cycle.

Distilled water is mineral-free and has no taste. More than that, it is more acidic and requires a massive system that can occupy a lot of space on the kitchen countertops.

Ion exchange is another efficient way to soften hard water. Hard water contains a large amount of calcium and magnesium ions and, sometimes iron ions. These ions need to be eliminated. This is possible with the help of resin beads, which are charged with sodium or potassium ions. When the water passes through the tank, the calcium and magnesium ions are replaced with sodium or potassium ions. In order to allow this process take place, you have to pour a NaCl solution into the resin bed tank.  It is to be mentioned that these beds are made of polystyrene, a material that attracts calcium and magnesium.

Although these systems are very efficient, they do not remove bacteria in the water. This is one con for this system type used to filtrate water. The de-ionization process means that the hydroxide and hydrogen ions for positive and negative ions in the water with the help of resin beads.

Carbon adsorption is another way you can filtrate water. This system is used to eliminate the chlorine in the water, which can be very harmful for our health. This process takes place with the help of coal, resin beads and pyrolyzing coconut. The absorption depends on the molecular size and weight of the organic chemicals. Carbon adsorption process eliminates both the chlorine in the water and several organic traces.

Although it is very efficient to eliminate chlorine in the water, this process will leave fine carbon particles into the water.

UV filtration is a germicidal treatment that takes place with the help of low-pressure lamps.

Depending on your needs, you can use only one of these water filtration systems or you can opt for a complex system that includes them all. It is your choice.
