A landscape with a river theme

How about creating a landscape with a river theme? Imagine you will bring next to your house the sound of water flowing, the charm of a small pond or river and the beauty of a wood area. Nature never felt closer.

If you go for this design, the most important part of it is the water feature.

You can have a small waterfall and a trickling stream. A landscape architect can help create it or a kit can be bought from a specialized store.

The natural aspect is given by river rocks. So deck the landscape with flat, rounded stones. Use them as a base for the waterfall, along the margins of the stream or place them randomly along the edges. If you have some left, river rocks are great for the walkway or other parts of the garden.

The green nature near a riverbed or a lake is usually wild and untamed. Try to recreate this look in your garden. Plant a variety of plants, from grass to trees. Ferns and trees look good near the water, flowers like peonies, daylilies or irises bring color.

An important detail is the setting. Choose garden furniture and fences made out of wood, a flagstone patio. Go for natural materials. Also, leave space in the yard for a gazebo or a patio.
