Bathrooms have a high level of humidity in the air. Without ventilation, this will cause condense, mold, mildew, structural rot. To avoid all this, install an exhaust fan.

Older houses, in particular, don’t have this feature or, if they do, is overworked and not suited anymore.
The activity of a fan means the rating for air movement and is measured in CFM – cubic feet per minute. For a regular-sized space, the fan should have 80 CFM.

The installation of a new fan can be done by you.
A must-have particularity of the device is to fit inside the opening that exists already and to be connected to the duct for exhaust.
Of course, there are cases of bathrooms that never had a fan. The spot for the unit will be in a present fixture for a ceiling light. Buy a fan with a light attached to it. Cut a hole in the ceiling, right where the fixture is and insert a vent pipe/duct to an exterior wall. Add a vent cap once you have the duct in the outside.

So let’s begin the process of installing the fan.
Turn off the fixture. Remove it. Place the housing or template to align it with the ceiling joist and establish the opening, tracing around it.

Make a hole through the entire opening with a drywall saw, saber saw, utility knife.

Insert in the hole the ductwork and hoses. Secure these with the fasteners that come in the package- fill very well the spaces in order to avoid vibration and give a silent operation.

Make the connection between the fan and the electrical wiring according to the instructions.

Now, attach the grille to the fixture (use the fastener) and band it to the hoses.

Place a light bulb and place the diffuser that should snap in its spot.

Haul the ductwork, with very little turns.

Indicate with a marker the spot for the vent cap and proceed in cutting the hole. With caulking made out of silicone cover the area around the cap and introduce it in the opening.

Secure the cap with galvanized screws.

Finally, connect the duct system to the vent cap and start the installed devices.
