Chimney cleaning products

A chimney that uses wood or coal as fuel, must be regularly cleaned. If not, the byproducts it produces in the burning process, creosote and soot, will buildup inside the chimney or flue pipe. These byproducts are very flammable and so, must be removed.

A professional chimney inspection at least once a year is highly recommended by the National Fire Protection Association. To find out if your chimney needs cleaning or not, you have to take into consideration a few things:

  1. If the fire doesn’t start as quickly as it should.
  2. If smoke is filling the room when you light a fire.
  3. If smoke is filling your entire house when you light a fire and the doors and windows of the room are open.
  4. If you sense any cold air or odd smells coming from the chimney when the fireplace isn’t being used.

If you confront with these issues, your chimney surely needs to be cleaned.
