Chimney hood ducting

A chimney hood is a very important device. It is usually made out of stainless steel and can be installed either on the ceiling or on a wall, above the cooking area. The newest hoods come with many features such as touch control, a digital display, automatic shut off, and use either LED or halogen lights and even a dishwasher safe grease filter.

Handling

When handling the chimney hood, make sure not to unpack it until installation and wear protective gloves and glasses when installing it. Remove the plastic only when the installation is complete.

Electrician

If you don’t have the necessary knowledge in electrical devices, you must hire an electrician to do the wiring job for you. Make sure the main electric source is off until the hood installation is complete. Between the hood and the cooking top there must be certain distances. 700mm for electric cookers,  gas cookers and 800mm for coal/oil cookers.

Ventilation

You must not connect the chimney hood to an existing ventilation system. Also, the kitchen must have a proper supply of air, because the hood removes smoke, not steam.

The duct

Make sure the hood is properly ducted. The duct should be as short as possible, to increase efficiency. The filters must be regularly cleaned in order to keep a pleasant odor around the house.

The stainless steel chimney hood is both an esthetically pleasing and a functional and efficient device.
