Chimney liner kit insulation

Protect your chimney from heat fires and corrosion, installing a stainless steel flue liner. A liner kit can be bought and installed simple and easy.

Tools and materials needed

  • Chimney Lining Kit
  • Work Gloves
  • Tape Measure
  • Utility Knife
  • Hack Saw
  • Caulking Gun
  • Silicone Caulk
  • Screwdriver

Preparations

Unwrap and set the liner on the ground, stretching it out.

Use a screw to attach the bottom termination connector to the liner hose clamp. Cut the liner to the right size using a hacksaw. Measure from the bottom termination connector to the chimney crown top to find out the right dimensions. Wear protective gear when cutting the liner.

Liner insulation

Cut the insulation to size the whole liner system. Set the insulation down and place the liner on it. Spray adhesive on the liner and the insulation and then wrap the liner, leaving one inch of insulation to overlap. Place a six inch piece of tape each 2 feet of the liner. Tape all the way to the seam. Cover the liner with wire mesh and secure them in place using the hose clamps. Cut excess mesh.

Liner installation

Attach the T-snout into the thimble in the wall of the chimney before you lower the liner down the chimney. Have someone assist you while you work. The assistant will tell you when the liner has been aligned with the T-snout. The bottom connector must be screws inside the T-snout.

Top termination

Apply silicone caulk to the top crown of the chimney and then place the top place over the liner. The silicone will waterproof the base of the plate. Screw the plate in and attach the connect band to the liner. Cut the liner so that is levels with the top plate. Attach the cap to the top plate.
