Drip irrigation backflow preventer

The drip irrigation system is the most effective and economic irrigation method of all. It delivers water directly to the roots of the plants through drip lines and emitters. Water isn’t wasted in the process thus, your water bill is lower.

Sketch your garden on a graph paper. Use different colors and symbols for the plants in the garden. Determine the shortest route the drip tubing must follow to irrigate each plant. Some bigger plants require more water than others, so using separate lines is necessary in some cases. Next up you have to measure the distance between the water supply and the garden. This distance will determine the length of the vinyl tube used to transport water to the garden. Connect a back flow control piece, controller, timer or control valve, filter and a pressure regulator to the water supply and water line. Along the entire length of the vinyl tubing, you must plug in emitters or drip lines. Check the gallons per minute/hour noted on the emitters. Use high volume emitters for large plants. For small, ground covering plants, use a sprinkler system. Depending on the size of the plant and how quickly the soil absorbs water, the volume transported at each emitter will be different.

Test the irrigation system by turning the water supply on and searching for leaks. Check for clogs in the lines and emitters.
