Drip irrigation system hose

The drip irrigation is the most effective of all systems. It is very economical because it reduces water waste. It assure it optimum amount of water needed.

Tools and Materials

  • Basic Garden Hose
  • Hose Cap
  • Outdoor Water Spigot
  • “Y” Hose Adapters
  • Hose-to-Hose Adapters
  • Ice Pick (or similar tool with a small, sharp end)
  • Hose Adapter Timer
  • Tape Measure

Measurements

Measure how much distance is between the garden and main water supply. Also, measure the length of the rows. Keep in mind that the hose may need to bend in some places.

Hose layout

You must draw the hose layout on paper. Mark each spot that needs to be irrigated. Use Y adapters to layout the hose around the garden more efficiently. Small gardens require a single hose that leads from the water source to the garden. Multiple gardens require Y adapters for a proper layout.

Timer

because some area of the garden require different amounts of water, you must use a timer connected to the Y adapter. The timer must be used only if you don’t want to turn the system on and off manually. Lay the hoses connected to the timer around the base of the plants. Cap the hose ends.

Holes

Punch holes in the hose and make them face the plant. Mark the spots of the holes in case you move the hose in the process. Keep the pressure at a medium level and inspect the system regularly.
