Irrigation process

A proper irrigation system will assure the right amount of water needed for plants to thrive. Too much water will kill the plants, as will too less water.

Importance

A proper irrigation system is the key factor for a healthy vegetable garden.

A garden requires at least 1/4 inch of water daily. If possible, water your garden daily, or even once every 4 hours to assure that the vegetables will be properly grown.

Tips

Mulching and soil preparations will assure the necessary moisture level and temperature to grow healthy vegetables. About 2-3 inches of wood chips, bark or straw are necessary for a proper mulching.

Types

If the garden that requires watering is small, use a hose or a watering can with a spray attachment. If the area is bigger, use a lawn sprinkler, a soaker hose or a drip irrigation system. The drip irrigation system needs a system of tubes and valves but is more efficient and saves water.
