Pruning techniques

Bonsai trees are a form of art, of “tray cultivated trees” (“panzai” in Chinese), dating back thousands of years in ancient China. Today, bonsai trees are growing more popular each day because of their uniqueness – their small stature. If you ever wanted a certain tree badly but never had a place to grow it, the bonsai is a perfect match for you keeping all the traits of the original plant and giving even more.

That is because it is the original tree, trained to grow short – do not confuse bonsai with genetically “dwarfed” trees, the art of bonsai involves purely tree growing techniques.

The bonsai art started from an effort to grow trees in pots. During these efforts, the resulting small trees did not pride with much foliage, but instead their trunks were shaped in various forms like dragons of legends. Nature’s art was represented through trees and the Chinese respected it and revered it through the bonsai. Even today it is considered an art form because it brings peace and tranquility to the mind of the caretaker.

The Buddhist monks spread this art form to Japan, around 12th century, first picked up by aristocrats and then spread throughout. By the 18th century bonsai art peaked, the Japanese having perfected the growing and pruning techniques. From here it spread to Europe, being revealed in the Paris world exhibition in 1900.

Since then it has spread constantly attracting new supporters every day.
