Sauna

If you wish to install an outdoor sauna you can either pay a professional to do it for you and pay quite a lot of money, or choose to do it yourself and save a lot of money. Knowledge about the process is needed.

Tools and materials needed

  • Nails
  • Timber wood
  • Hammer
  • Rubber hand-gloves
  • A sauna heater
  • Ladder
  • Rockwool
  • Drilling machine
  • Saw
  • Rock wool – additional thermal insulation

All of the materials listed above can be found at a hardware shop.

Lower the prices

To reduce the price of the sauna, you can try reducing its size, depending on how many people will use the sauna. Different types of timber will also increase or decrease the price of the sauna. Try using cedar as an alternative building wood.

Design

Search through magazines and online for different sauna designs. Choose the one that suits your tastes.

Lighting systems

You can use light bulbs or tubes to light the sauna. It is fairly inexpensive. Position the lights above the benches.

Stove or heater

You can purchase an electrically powered sauna stove or heater at any electrical appliance store. Choose an efficient model that will require few repairs and doesn’t need constant maintenance. It will cost you around $700.

Assemble kit

If you wish to avoid all the installation hassle, you can purchase a self-assembly sauna kit that costs around $5,000 to $7,000.
