Automatic garage doors are most commonly used for convenience and security and this implies garage door openers activated by a remote control or a keypad.

There are many types of garage door openers and they come with an installation manual. First make sure you have a grounded receptacle close to the garage door opener and gather the necessary tools and materials: a drill and drill bits, lag screws, a socket set, shims, screw drivers, mounting bracket, a pair of pliers, a tape measure, insulated caps, wrenches, wire cutter, hammer, hacksaw, level, step ladder and some 2×4 inch pieces.

Check the tension of the springs by opening the door halfway and letting it do – if it remains in place the tension is correct, if not then you need to adjust it.

Assemble the garage door opener, align the idler pulley and bolt it to the door end of the guide rails. Slide the trolleys on the rails and bolt them to the opener unit. Now slip the drive belt/chain through the hole in the rails which hold the trolley in place – you can use a screwdriver for this, and attach one end of it to the trolley using the tool provided in the kit for this purpose. Wrap the belt/chain around the idler pulley, then around the sprocket and the opener unit and attach the other end of it to the trolley, opposite the first.

Next open the garage door completely and pinpoint the highest point where the door reaches, and two inches to it and mark it above the door and on the inside wall of your garage. Marking the centre of the garage door draw on the inside wall an imaginary line which will intersect the line intersecting the earlier established highest point. This will be the place where you will install the opener. If the point is not over a wall stud then attach a 2×4 inch piece horizontally across 2 studs.

Mount the header bracket, close the garage door and place the idler pulley end of the opener to the header bracket above the door, positioning the assembly so that the rail is above the door tracks. Open the garage door again and raise the opener (using shims) until it reaches two inches above the door.

Apply the mounting bracket to the ceiling joints, secure it with lag screws, then attach the opener with hanging brackets to the bracket in either a crossed or angled fashion.

Now install the door controls, placing the push button near the door. The electric eye sensors should be placed inside the garage, near the floor, on both sides of the door.

Use the staples to fasten the wires, you should have enough to use one at every 15-20 inches, then you should connect them to the proper terminals – use the manual for instructions. Now attach the garage door bracket to the door, aligning it with the guide rail and close the door firmly. Pin one curved door arm to the door bracket and the other to the trolley aligning them and bolting them together.

Now you can plug the system, test it and make necessary arrangements to the force of the opener as per manual.
