The iris is not a pretentious plant and requires no special care. The most common breeding way is through rhizome division because this procedure does not have a high failure rate, but one can also grow iris flower through seeds, although this method implies quite a long time until flowers appear. Generally, the iris is a spring flower, but some species bear flowers in summer and even during winter, if maintained properly and protected from frost.

  •  Soil and fertilization

The iris thrives in areas with a well-drained and porous soil. The ideal Ph is 6.8. However, iris is tolerant in this regard. It cannot stand heavy water logging grounds. When planting iris rhizomes, one should choose those that present two or more leaf sprouts. The rhizomes should be planted in such a way that their tops are exposed and the roots are facing downward in the ground. The distance between each rhizome varies between fifteen and twenty-four inches, depending on the type.

  •  Watering

The soil type and the climate are two criteria that influence the watering. Specialists recommend deep watering at long intervals of time. Watering iris flower frequently is not a good idea.  The only care that iris flower needs to thrive is a fertilizer, which has to be applied a month before and after blooming. In order to help these flowers grow healthy one has to thin them every three or four years; otherwise, the bloom will be affected.
