Unnecessary energy

You can save energy and money by knowing how to use the thermostat wisely. The following advices are suited both for winter and summer.

  1. Get a programmable thermostat or use the programs on the one you already have.
It allows you to set the temperatures during the day, shut off the AC when there is no need for it. You can get as specific as you want due to the multiple options for setting a program.
  2. If you are away from home for a few days or more, set the thermostat at a higher temperature in the summer (or just power off the AC) and, in the winter, choose a 65 degrees temperature or lower.
  3. Try to choose the most suitable temperature for the season you are in. Only one degree in shift can mean 2% out of the energy bill. For summer, 78 degrees are enough and, as for winter, 68 is the suitable amount of degrees.
  4. Outside is so hot. You can hardly wait to get home and turn on the thermostat at least 2 degrees lower than the outdoor temperature. Don’t do this! It will raise your bill and use unnecessary energy.
  5. Be sure you don’t place heat sources near the thermostat. If you do so, it will interpret the wave of hot air as the temperature for the whole house and will waste energy by increasing the cooling power.
