How to install a chimney cap
The chimney caps are devices that are mounted on the top of the chimney to protect it. It is usually made out of stainless steel or copper. They can still be damaged and require maintenance and repair.
Tools and materials
- A pair of pliers
- A hammer
- Replacement metal caps
- Screwdriver
Dents
One of the most common types of damage a chimney cap can suffer are dents. You must use a pair of pliers in order to straighten the dents.
Recapping
The chimney cap may be too damaged to repair. So you must recap the old chimney cap with a new metal cap. Measure the old cap and use those measurements to cut the new piece. Caulk and metal adhesive must be used to stick the new cap over the old one.
Screws
If the issue that affects your cap is loose screws, all you have to do is use a screwdriver or a hammer to secure them.
Regardless of what operation you need to perform on the cap, don;t forget to clean it of any debris and soot.
