Patio concrete resurfacing

A patio is a pleasant area to sit back, relax and enjoy yourself. In time the concrete may wear off. Resurfacing it is a good method of bringing some beauty back in the old patio.rclma If the patio is very cracked, ripping it out and reapplying it is the only safe solution.

If the concrete has reinforced mesh under it, then it will not crack more than at the surface. If this is the case, you can resurface the patio using ceramic tiles, terracotta tiles, clay pavers, slate, natural stones pavers and more.

The best and easiest resurfacing method involves interlocking modular deck tiles that don’t use screws, adhesives or any other thing to attach to the surface. This makes the tiles also easier to remove and replace in case of damage.

Wood tiles can either be designed to fit with wood bearers underneath them or with screws/nails. The second method is more effective but also involves more maintenance if the nails or screws corrode. Wood tiles don’t have interlocking modules. The tiles aren’t held together one to another. Wood bearers can come in contact with water quite frequently. This most likely leads to warping and damaged wood.

Modern wood tiles have build in plastic meshes under them that lift the wood bearers off the ground and provide a way of interlocking the tiles. These wood slats are either press fitted or connected using pins.

Mesh wood tiles are more versatile. You can install them around underground pipes. The mesh will assure that the wood stands off the ground and is leveled. This makes the mesh wood tiles a better choice than screwed in wood tiles. Some designs have clips that connect tiles together, whilst others have s called pegs that correspond to certain loops.

The fastest way to lay down wood tiles, is using a set of connecting tabs that have mesh corresponding to the tiles and allow customization by the producer, to fit any patio needs.

The surface of the patio is raised with 1 and 1/4  – 1 and 1/2 inches so take care of the outer tile edges to avoid tripping over the tiles. Using manufacturer’s reducers will cover the plastic tabs and arrange the outer row of tiles so there is no danger of tripping over them.

Interlocking 12 inch by 12 inch tiles aren’t the best choice to cover up small ares and irregular areas.

Be sure to choose resistant wood tiles and the right color for them. Hardwood is the wood type of choice. It is the most durable of all and perfect for the job.

Most wood tiles are durable and have almost no need of maintenance. Disadvantages aren’t significant and durability is high.
