Far infrared light and energy

Everybody knows that the rainbow includes seven colors that are visible to human eye: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Among these colors, red is the most visible while violet is the most pale color of the rainbow. Infrared radiation and ultraviolet radiation are included in the category of electromagnetic radiation which is outside the optical spectrum.

The terms “infra” and” ultra” come from the Latin vocabulary and mean “below” and “beyond”. As a result, infrared can be translated as “below red” while ultraviolet means “beyond violet”.

The infrared light was discovered by William Herschel in 1800 after his first sighting of the planet Uranus. While he was measuring the heat from the optical spectrum, Herschel noticed that the temperature become higher and higher from violet to red. Because the temperature beyond the red color was the higher, he called this region of invisible light “infrared”.

Infrared light includes three different segments having exact ranges of wavelength measured by microns (1 micron = 1/1,000,000 of a meter). These segments can also be divided into:

–          near infrared

–          middle infrared

–          far infrared.

Also known as thermal light or thermal radiation, far infrared light represents the heat that comes from the sun and fire.

Although some people are still trying to protect themselves from the dangerous UV radiation using special lotions, others have discovered the pleasure to enjoy far infrared or thermal light using residential heat therapy rooms or far infrared saunas.

The main characteristic of far infrared light is that it can heat one object directly without modifying the temperature of the air around.
